Mike Palmer is the Executive Director for Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory LLP, a California law firm with over 200 lawyers in six offices in the state. As such, he is responsible for all administrative functions for the firm. Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Mike spent over eighteen years as the chief operating officer for four large law firms located in Los Angeles and Dallas, Texas. He has also served in several financial and administrative capacities with an international oil and gas company, as well as eight years with Arthur Young & Company as a Certified Public Accountant. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles. He has been an active member of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) since 1987. He served ALA as an officer and board member at the chapter, regional and international level, including Chapter President from 1996 to 1997 and international association President from 1999 to 2000. Mike has spoken on various financial topics at numerous ALA conferences and in New Zealand and Australia. In 2002, he was the recipient of the Spirit of ALA Award, the highest award given to its members.

Mike Palmer has had an extraordinary impact on the legal community. While serving as the Executive Director of several large law firms, he provided leadership to the Association of Legal Administrators and spoke on law firm management issues in the U.S., New Zealand, and Australia. He assisted in the formation of the Australian Legal Practice Management Association Ltd., an organization similar to the ALA. Mike’s contributions have provided lawyers with a greater understanding of the principles of law firm management. His achievements were recognized by the ALA when he was awarded the Spirit of ALA Award, given to those setting the highest standards for commitment to professionalism, dedication to the advancement of law firm administration, and providing long-time service to the ALA. By his induction, the College recognizes Mike’s dedication to providing education on the importance of effective, ethical legal services for all members of the legal management services team.
