Richard B. Potter, QC, is a professional services consultant with prior experience as an international business lawyer, law firm administrator and marketing director. He practiced with Fasken Martineau in Toronto, founding the firm’s Computer & IT Law Group in the 1980s. Later, he headed the firm’s office in London England, returning to Toronto to become the full-time Director of Marketing & Business Development. In 2001, Richard formed the consultancy He advises on strategic issues for professional services firms, including mergers and firm governance, US/Canada cross-border strategies, practice management, CRM and harnessing electronic communications for better client service. As an example of the latter, he is Editor of (and frequent contributor to) the bi-weekly e-newsletter for a leading Canadian IT/IP law firm, Deeth Williams Wall LLP. Richard often contributes to professional publications on LPM topics and has spoken to law societies and law firm administrators across Canada. Richard has also devised a post-graduate university course in LPM studies which he is currently refining. Carrying on a national consulting practice from a home office base in rural Eastern Ontario (Prince Edward County), where he and his wife occupy an 1875 farmhouse, Richard knows he is lucky to live both in the middle of nowhere, but very much in the centre of the universe.

Richard is a former Trustee of the College of Law Practice Management.
