Simon Chester is a partner in the Litigation and Business Law groups at the Canadian law firm of Heenan Blaikie LLP where he also has responsibilities for knowledge management, opinions, and research. He holds law degrees from Oxford University and Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and held a Canadian Rhodes Trust Foundation Scholarship. He belongs to both the Ontario Bar and the Law Society of England and Wales.

Simon has written extensively in North America and Europe on privacy, legal and technology themes and is a regular contributor SLAW, Canada’s online legal magazine. He has spoken on law practice management issues to audiences across Canada and the United States, Scotland, England, India and Singapore. His current interests include innovation by professionals and the cultural impacts of technology. He has chaired the American Bar Association’s ABA TECHSHOW, and has held many chairmanships within the ABA, including the Law Practice magazine Editorial Board, and his article (with Merrilyn Astin Tarlton) on “25 Trends to Watch” in that magazine’s 25th Anniversary Issue won an Edge Award. In addition, Simon is a past member of  the Working Group on Foreign Legal Information at Hague Conference on Private International Law and past member and consultant at Canadian Bar Association Task Force on Conflicts of Interest.

His family background spans Europe, North America and Asia, leading to a cross-cultural view of current law practice developments. His career includes experience as a law teacher and as a government lawyer.

Simon is a past President and Trustee of the College of Law Practice Management.
