Taswell Papier is a director at ENSafrica in the corporate commercial department, specialising in all commercial aspects of transactions, predominantly for national and multi-national corporations, in the private and public sector, doing business in South Africa and on the continent of Africa.

Taswell is an expert mediator, negotiator and facilitator who is ideally placed to interact with all spheres of government, the state and regulators in South Africa and elsewhere. He is the lead advisor in one of the country’s largest infrastructural development projects. He has extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions and franchising matters, and has advised on one of South Africa’s leading oil and gas initiatives which is still under way. Taswell was appointed as an advisor to the Department of Marine & Coastal Management on strategic matters relating to fishing and marine resources and served on the legal task team responsible for drafting the current Marine Living Resources Act. He established a number of committees and systems on behalf of that Department.

Taswell has mediated in a number of high profile commercial disputes, representing multinational corporations doing business in Africa as well as South African corporations doing business internationally. He advises on Parliamentary and ministerial matters and has acted at all levels of government: local, provincial and national. Apart from his corporate and commercial specialism, Taswell has experience as a specialist litigator, which includes interactions with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in high profile matters, facilitating representations, negotiated settlements and plea bargains in all areas, including commercial and tax law matters. His practice experience further includes all aspects of corporate commercial law, such as the drafting of commercial contracts and corporate governance. He has also acted for the country’s largest financial institutions, as well as the Financial Services Board. He currently serves as a trustee on a number of trusts and boards, and was appointed by the Kimberley High Court as a Receiver in one of the country’s largest land, governance and mining rights disputes.

For over a decade, Taswell Papier has established and maintained innovative approaches to grow and expand the development of pro bono activities in South Africa to help the historically disadvantaged in that country.  His work has been internationally recognized.  Although he maintains a robust corporate practice in the largest law firm on the continent of Africa, Taswell generously shares his knowledge and experience with other members of the profession across the globe, and contributes substantial portions of his time and energy to a variety of organizations serving the public good. By his induction this evening, the College recognizes his significant role in promoting the pro bono efforts of the legal profession generally and as practiced in corporate law offices across the globe.
