Wendy Bernero is a partner in Bernero & Press, LLC is a consultancy focused on helping law firms achieve a competitive edge. Wendy has more than 20 years of experience as a law firm business development and marketing professional. Most recently she served as Chief of Strategic Initiatives at Proskauer Rose LLP, a 700-attorney law firm serving clients’ most critical legal needs in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Previously, Wendy served as Chief Marketing Officer of Fried Frank LLP, and CMO of McKee Nelson LLP‚ where she played a senior role in the firm’s merger search and eventual combination and integration with Bingham LLP; Paul‚ Weiss LLP‚ where she established this litigation and corporate powerhouse’s first formal marketing and business development program; and as a partner in the management consulting firm, Hildebrandt International (now Law Vision Group). Beyond the legal sector, her experience includes serving as director of marketing and public affairs for Washington Bancorporation and as press and legislative aide to a U.S. Congressman.

In recognition of her contributions to the profession, in 2012 Wendy was inducted into the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) Hall of Fame and in 2013 was awarded New York LMA’s Innovator of the Year award. Her professional activities include regularly speaking at LMA chapter meetings and annual conferences and serving on LMA’s Think Tank Committee. For the past two years, she has worked with ALM on the development of innovative programming to serve the professional and career development needs of newly promoted partners. She is currently planning the re-launch of Marketing Directors Institute as The Strategy Institute, a think tank focused on actionable innovation in the legal sector.


Wendy Bernero is described by many current Fellows as “the most strategic legal industry thought-leader I know.” She has an enormous a gift of communication that enables her to effectively present and support ideas in ways others can easily grasp and absorb. Her work on LMA boards and committees, as an author of LMA-published literature, and as a speaker and developer of educational programming for legal marketers has been standard-setting. She was a driving force behind American Lawyer Media’s inaugural and subsequent programs for fledgling partners, and she is a repeat chair of ALM’s Business Development Officer Forum. On top of all of that, she has converted the Marketing Director Institute into one of the industry’s most successful training programs for young marketers, and in the process become a mentor to new generations of marketing professionals.
